Lacrosse Falls In Second Round of NCAA Tournament

CMS ended their season May 15, 2011 against Gettysburg College in the second round of NCAA play.  The Athenas opened up the game at Seagull Stadium in Salisbury, MD at 2:30 pm.  Senior captain Sarah Dick (Beverly, MA) scored the first goal of the game off a clean possession by the Athenas. Both teams struggled to maintain possession, but with a series of turnovers Gettysburg found their rythem and the Bullets scored 12 unanswered goals.  The Athenas rallied back late in the half, adding two in the last few minutes. The teams left the first with the scoreboard reading 12-3.

CMS came out hard after the break and scored the first goal of the second half.  Gettysburg answered right back but athe Athenas were able to score the next three. The Athenas picked up their game considerably in the second half and outscored the Bullets 8-6.  However, the first half deficit was too great to climb back from.  Aside from scoring troubles in the first half the Athenas totaled 24 turnovers the entire game.  Lack of possesion made it hard for the CMS side to battle back.

Senior Sarah Dick finished the game with 4 goals and also posted the 200th goal of her career. Junior Ali Abramovitz (Denver, CO) added a hat trick and sophomore Madi Shove (Portola Valley) tallied a pair. Athena scoring was rounded out by single tallies from Rachel Darby and Allie Haynes. The Bullets were led by Hannah Church who posted 5 goals on the day. The Athenas lost by a final score of 18-11.

Gettysburg College faced Salisbury University Sunday, May 15th and defeated the 2010 National Champions.  They will head to the final four.

CMS finishes the 2011 season 16-3, overall.
