Athenas Tame Tigers In SCIAC Semis

CMS defeated the Occidental Tigers 16-6 on Saturday to advance to the SCIAC Championship on Sunday.  The Athenas remain undefeated in SCIAC (9-0) and improve to 14-2 overall.

The Athenas opened up the first half with seven unanswered goals. At 4:28 Haley Gandsey scored the lone goal of the first half for the Tigers.  The Athenas went on to score two more before the close of the half for a 9-1 halftime advantage.  Six Athenas were able to contribute to the goal total.

The second half start resembled the first half with Sarah Dick scoring off a free position shot.  The Athenas went on to score six more goals in the second half. The Tigers were able to score three consecutive goals in the second half to lessen their deficit.  Gandsey and Isabel Osgood-Roach led Occidental with a pair of goals each.

The Athenas had four players net a hat trick and another four convert single goals.  Dick, Ali Abramovitz, Rachel Darby, and Madi Shove finished with three each.  Kaitlyn Desai, Jane Eberts, Maddie Bannon, and Anthea Weixel notched one.  The Athenas were able to get eight scorers involved.

Dick led with five draw controls and Bannon stayed close with four.  Freshmen Bayley Mullan tied Desai and Shove for ground ball pick ups with three a piece.

CMS will play Pomona-Pitzer in the tournament final after the Sagehens upset the host Bulldogs of Redlands in the other semifinal 14-13 in triple-overtime
