Athenas Win 20-3; Six Seniors Honored

CMS lacrosse recognized their senior leaders on Wednesday evening prior to their regular season finale against Pomona-Pitzer and a concerted team effort was put forth to send them out in style.  CMS dominated the game from the whistle and won 20-3.  Eleven Athenas tallied markers in the match, five of which netted more than one goal.  Senior captain Sarah Dick led with six points totaling three goals and three assists.  Freshmen Maddie Bannon was close behind with four goals.

The Athenas dictated the tempo of the game from the first draw to the last whistle.  CMS scored 13 unanswered goals in the first half.  Junior Ali Abramovitz scored the first goal of the game off an assist from senior captain Molly Murtaugh.  Sarah Dick was a playmaker for the Athenas assisting three consecutive goals in the first half, two to Madi Shove and another to Abramovitz.  Kaitlyn Desai added an assist to Bannon at 5:00 to make the score 12-0.  At 1:14 Jana London was able to convert a goal to get the Sagehens on the board before halftime.

Following the half, Bannon notched her third goal of the night followed by a spectacular behind the back goal from Dick at 23:23. The Sagehens were able to tally two more goals in the second half, but the Athena attackers had possession for the majority of the game.

The  CMS defense held Pomona-Pitzer scoreless for the first 28 minutes of play.  Led by seniors Maggie Rogers and Laura Hagen, the Athenas held the Sagehens to three goals for the entire 60 minutes.  Senior Katie Campbell-Morrison also stood strong saving three of the four shots she faced.

Prior to the game, CMS honored six senior players: defenders Laura Hagen, Maggie Rogers, goalie Katie Campbell-Morrison, midfielders Molly Murtaugh and Kaitlyn Desai, and attacker Sarah Dick were all distinguished in front of family, friends, and teammates. The class of 2011 boasts three consecutive NCAA appearances (with two second round appearances), the inaugural SCIAC Championship, an All American, three All-West Region players and two SCIAC Players of the Year. They have lead this year's team to the first ever Top 20 Ranking for a SCIAC team and will continue to garner accolades as they go into post-season play.

The Athenas finish regular season play 13-2 overall.  They remain undefeated (8-0) in SCIAC and will be seeded first going into the SCIAC tournament.  The SCIAC Semi-Finals will be played Saturday, April 30 at the University of Redlands.
