CMS Remains Undefeated In SCIAC

The Athenas improved their SCIAC record to 6-0 on Saturday, April 9 at Claremont.  They faced off at 1 pm with the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands.  CMS led 8-5 at the half and went on to outscore the Bulldogs by eight goals in the second half.  The final scoreboard read 18-7 and the Athenas improved their overall record to 11-2.

The first half started with an unassisted goal at 28:36 by senior attacker Sarah Dick (pictured), who went on to net a team-high of six goals for the competition.  Bulldogs senior attacker Christy Smith took under a minute to answer back with an unassisted goal.  Although the Bulldogs were quick on their first score, CMS followed with three unassisted goals.  Just 10 minutes into the half CMS led 5-2.  Dick, Darby, Molly Murtaugh, Ali Abramovitz, and Maddie Bannon all worked together to total the eight goals that gave the Athenas a three goal lead at the half.

CMS stole the show in the attacking end during the second half and scored 10 goals compared to the Bulldogs two.  Kaitlyn Desai notched three assists in the second half alone.  Murtaugh and Madi Shove each added assists.  The Athenas attack was led by Dick with six goals and closely followed by Darby who netted five.

Abramovitz and Shove led the Athenas in ground ball possessions with three each.  Murtaugh came down with five draw controls to lead CMS on the circle.

Smith totaled four goals for the Bulldogs and senior Megan Prickett scored three.  Prickett also led her team in draw controls with four.

The Athenas have two more SCIAC games prior to the SCIAC Tournament at the end of the month: Whittier on April 16 and Pomona-Pitzer on April 20.  Both competitions will be held at CMS.
