CMS Downs The Sagehens 19-8

CMS played at conference rival Pomona-Pitzer on Monday and used a balanced attack to come away with a 19-8 victory.  Ten players scored goals in the game and the defense turned in a solid effort as CMS improved to 5-0 in SCIAC play.  Overall, the Athenas have won three straight to improve to 10-2 overall.

The first whistle was at 7:00 pm and the two teams lined up anticipating the first possession.  The first goal was scored on a completed free position shot by Madi Shove, who went on to lead the team with five goals.  CMS netted three balls by 27:56 and led 3-0.  The Sagehens answered back with a pair of unassisted goals by junior Martha Marich, but this was the closest Pomona-Pitzer would come to CMS for the entire game. The Athenas continued their offensive attack with six consecutive goals.  Single scores came from Shove, Molly Murtaugh, Kaitlyn Desai and Maddie BannonRachel Darby netted a pair of the six, one of which was assisted by junior Jane EbertsAli Abramovitz added a goal with an assist from Desai with 0:39 left in the half.  CMS had six players contribute goals to the advantageous half time score of 12-3.

The second thirty minutes started with an assisted goal from Murtaugh to Darby 24 seconds into the half.  Darby finished the game with a hat trick and an assist.  Four more Athenas added to the offensive threat in the second half.  Sarah Dick, Allie Haynes, Claire Peterson, and Anthea Weixel all notched a single goal to complete the offensive game with 19 points on the board.  Desai led the team with six points, completing four assists and two goals.

CMS defense was led by senior goalie Katie Campbell-Morrison (pictured) who made an impressive 13 saves on 16 shots in the first half alone.  She finished the game with 17 saves.

CMS is currently ranked No.16 in national standings.  They return to play on Saturday, April 9 against the University of Redlands at CMS. They will face off at 1:00 pm on Parents Field.
