CMS Improves To 2-0 In SCIAC With Win At Whittier

The CMS women's lacrosse team improved their conference record to 2-0 on March 23 against Whittier College.  The Athenas outscored the Poets 20-10 playing on the road at Memorial Stadium in the wind and rain under the lights.

The Athenas made an impressive offensive statement in the first half by scoring 15 of their 20 goals in the first 30 minutes of play. Sarah Dick, Molly Murtaugh, Rachel Darby, Madi Shove, Bayley Mullan, and Maddie Bannon (pictured) all contributed to put up a cumulative total of 15 goals for the Athenas.  The Athenas were also able to hit seven of their 10 free position shots in the first half.

At the half the score was 15-5.  The Athenas and Poets played a tie game in the second half with both squads putting up five goals. 

The CMS midfielders dominated the draw controls throughout the entire game. The Athenas gained possession over the Poets on 22 of 32 draws.  Junior Jane Eberts was able to pull down four of those and freshman Maddie Bannon grabbed six.

Sophomore midfielder Madi Shove led the scoring with 8 goals, while senior captain Sarah Dick followed close behind with 7 goals and one assist.  Junior Allie Haynes also tallied a solo assist.

The Athenas, 6-2 overall, play against Buffalo State College tomorrow evening at 7:30.
