Athenas Corral Bobcats

The CMS Athenas won their second straight game in as many nights with a 16-11 win over the Bates Bobcats Thursday evening. Coming on the heels of the season's first conference win, the Athenas mounted a strong performance that was able to topple their NESCAC foe.

The Bobcats jumped out to a two goal lead early in the game with goals from Jenn Brallier and Joan O'Neill.  The Athenas evened the score as sophomore Rachel Darby and senior Molly Murtaugh were able to find the back of the net.  The Athenas rattled off five more goals with scores from Ai Abramovitz and a pair each from Sarah Dick and Madi Shove (pictured) to jump out to a 7-2 lead. The Bobcats battled back before the half as O'Neil tallied two more scores to bring the score to 7-4 at half.

The Athenas came out of the half on fire adding four more scores before Bates was able to notch another goal. Late in the half, the Bobcats rallied to score three consecutive goals narrowing the margin to 14-9. The Athenas, however, were able to hang onto the win, trading a pair of goals with Bates late to end the game 16-11. Dick and Shove led the Athenas with four goals apiece. Murtaugh and freshman Maddie Bannon also led the Athenas with four draw controls each. The Bobcats were led by O' Neill who finished the game with four goals and three assists.

The Athenas will be back in action next Wednesday, March 2 against another East Coast opponent, St John Fisher, on Zinda Field at 7:00.
