2011 Women's Lacrosse Season Preview

2011 Women's Lacrosse Season Preview

The CMS womens' lacrosse team will be returning on fire this season ready to defend their 2010 SCIAC championship. After going undefeated in the region and finishing with a 16-3 record, the Athenas look to continue their success in 2011. Despite losing some key players to graduation, they return seven starters and will look to some new faces to step up this year.  There is hope and opportunity for returning underclassmen and incoming freshmen to step into impact roles for the Athenas.

Attackers will be looking for leadership from returning senior Sarah Dick whose accolades include 2010 SCIAC Player of the Year, 2010 Second Team All-American, the team's leading scorer and second in assists in 2010. Dick will look for support from talented attackers like Ali Abramovitz and Rachel Darby to keep CMS lacrosse ranked amongst the top five scoring offenses in Division III lacrosse.

After being ranked second nationally in draw controls in 2010, the Athenas hope to keep control of the midfield and the transition game. They will be returning two players that were named First Team All-Conference in 2010, senior Molly Murtaugh and sophomore Madi Shove. Senior Kaitlyn Desai and freshmen Maddie Bannon will be essential in transition alongside Murtaugh and Shove.

The key to the Athenas offensive success will start with their defense that will be anchored by their returning senior goalie, Katie Campbell-Morrison. Campbell-Morrison was also named First Team All-Conference in 2010 and ended last season with an impressive 147 saves.  With her experience and knowledge, she will look to senior defenders Laura Hagen and Maggie Rogers to help organize and protect the defensive side.

Overall, the Athenas are excited and ready to work hard to defend the inaugural 2010 SCIAC title. They also carry strong hopes to return to NCAA championship competition. The 2011 Athenas will be captained by Kaitlyn Desai, Molly Murtaugh, and Sarah Dick.
