CMS Set To Face Pomona-Pitzer In First Round Of SCIAC Tournament
Claremont, CA - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s
lacrosse team will face rival Pomona-Pitzer in the first ever
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
Tournament. The opening draw is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday at Whittier College.
The Athenas (12-2, 8-0 SCIAC) enter the tournament as the first
seed and have not dropped a conference game all season. They are
led by junior Sarah Dick (Beverly, MA) who has a team-leading 66
points and senior Devon Scott (Portland, OR) who is second on the
team with 53 points and has pulled down a team high of 43 draw
controls this season.
Pomona-Pitzer (6-11, 3-6 SCIAC) beat Occidental College on
Wednesday night to earn a spot in the semifinals to face the
Athenas. They are led by sophomore Martha Marich who has totaled
113 goals and 90 draw controls this season.
This will be the third meeting between the Athenas and
Pomona-Pitzer, with the Athenas winning the last game by a score of
18-8. The Athenas were led by Scott who had four goals and freshman
Madison Shove (Portola Valley) who contributed three goals. The
Sagehens were paced by Marich who had five goals.
The winner of the CMS vs. Pomona-Pitzer match-up will advance to
the finals to face the winner of the Redlands vs. Whittier
game. The final is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 2nd at
Whittier.
