Athenas Finish SCIAC Regular Season Undefeated

Los Angeles, CA - On a rainy and cool night the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas moved to 12-2 with a 20-6 win over Occidental College (1-12) and kept intact their unblemished 8-0 record in conference play. The Athenas are currently ranked No.1 in the Western Region standings by The NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Committee.

The Athenas were led by freshman Madison Shove (Portola Valley) who scored a career-high five goals and junior Sara Dick (Beverly, MA) who tacked on four goals. Seniors Devon Scott (Portland, OR) and Cassy Delano (Boston, MA) each added three goals while Colbi Brawner (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Jennifer Cohen (Danville) had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Ali Abramovitz (Denver, CO) rounded out the scoring with a goal and junior Kaitlyn Desai (Chesterfield, MO) led the team with two assists.

The Athenas jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back. Scott scored the first two goals before the Tigers put one on the board. The Athenas reeled off the next six goals before the Tigers could answer back with two goals of their own. The Athenas tacked on two more goals as did the Tigers before the end of the half. The Athenas led going into halftime 10-5.

In the second half the Athenas were led by a stingy defense and efficient offense as they outscored the Tigers 10-1. Junior goalie Katie Campbell-Morrison (Cleveland, OH) had another solid performance in goal with six saves and senior defender Shelly Sheinbein (Los Angeles) had three draw controls. Delano and Dick also had three draw controls as the Athenas are one of the top teams in the country at total draw controls won.

The Athenas will return to action next week at the inaugural SCIAC tournament hosted by Whittier and are scheduled to play the winner of the 4th/5th place game on Saturday, May 1st at 11:30am.
