CMS Finishes Home Campaign Undefeated

CLAREMONT, CA. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lacrosse team downed Pomona-Pitzer 19-5 Wednesday in the first of their two cross-campus rivalry games. Thirteen Athenas registered points in the victory. CMS improved to 9-2 overall, while the Sagehens fell to 1-7 on the season.  CMS finished the season 6-0 at home and the CMS senior class (pictured) finished their careers 26-7 at home including 11-1 in the last two seasons.

Fittingly, in their last regular season home game, all six CMS seniors led their team to victory with their multiple scoring and defensive efforts. All three senior attackers registered multi-point games.  Lindsay Gaesser (Charlottesville, VA) assisted on seven goals and notched one of her own, Blair Thompson (San Jose, CA) scored a goal and dished out three assists and Callie Snively (Englewood, CO) was able to find the back of the net three times.

Senior midfielder Olivia Rotondi (New York, NY) picked up three groundballs, snatched three draw controls and tallied four points of her own (3g, 1a), while low defender Kristen Steenerson had a career day, dominating the backfield and forcing four caused turnovers, seizing seven groundballs and even taking it end to end and recording a goal of her own.  Senior goalkeeper Katyayani Strohl (Oak Park, IL) continued her dominance in the net, picking up four saves and leading the Athenas to a 95% success rate on clears for the contest.

Along with the senior class, junior Kelsy Avalos-Feehan (Carmel, CA) (2g) and freshman Sarah Dick (Beverly, MA) (2g, 1a) both recorded multiple point efforts on the night, while sophomores Shelly Sheinbein (Los Angeles, CA) and Melissa Irvine (Woodside, CA) were both able to force the Sagehens to turnover the ball twice.

For the visitors, senior Melissa Berg (Bethesda, MD) scored twice, while freshman netminder Kristin Raphel (Demarest, NJ) turned the high powered Athenas offense away ten times.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be back in action on April 14 when they travel to Whittier for a 7:00 pm game.
