Stags Dominate Second Half In Win at Whittier

CMS used a 14-0 run in the second half to earn a 69-54 win at Whitter on Wednesday night.  The Stags led by double figures for the last eight-plus minutes including an 18-point advantage with a minute remaining.  CMS is now 8-5 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC.  Whittier drops to 8-5 and 1-1.

The first half was a back and forth affair as the teams traded leads and it ended with the seventh tie of the game, 35-35.  Both teams scored early in the second half before the Stags went on their run.  The Stags made five baskets, including two threes, and two free throws during the run while forcing four Poet turnovers and holding them to 0-8 from the field.

Chris Blees (FR, Carmichael [pictured]) led the team with 20 points.  Craig Borengasser (SR, Tempe, AZ) had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Dan Winterbottom (SR, Tempe, AZ) added 14 points and Austin Soldner (JR, Southlake, TX) had 13 points and seven assists.

Mike Archuleta led the Poets with 14 points off the bench.

CMS returns to Ducey Gymnasium for a Saturday evening doubleheader against cross-street rival, Pomona-Pitzer. The women play at 5:00 with the men following at 7:30.
