Christine Yu Ties for First, As Athenas Golf Finishes Runner-Up at SCIAC No. 1

COASTA MESA, Calif. - First-year Christine Yu tied for individual medalist honors in her first collegiate conference tournament as she ended at +1 at the two-day SCIAC No. 1 hosted at Costa Mesa Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.

The Athenas ended up in second place in a very tight three-way battle at +15, finishing four shots behind Pomona-Pitzer and one shot ahead of Redlands. CMS was tied for the lead heading into the final two holes, but the Sagehens came up with the narrow win.

Yu shot a 68 (-3) on Saturday, which was the low round in the entire field, and came through with a solid 73 on Sunday (+2) on a day in which nobody shot even par. Katelyn Yo of Pomona-Pitzer shot a one-over 72 to pull even with Yu with two late birdies, but Yu was still able to maintain a share of the individual title.

Jeissy Lee also had a strong tournament for the Athenas, finishing at +3 with a 145. Lee had an impressive stretch of four straight birdies on the front nine, including two par-fives and two par-threes.

Esther Lee also ended in the top 10 for CMS, ending in ninth place at +5 for the two-round tournament.

CMS will be back in action on March 9-10 at the George Fox Invitational.
