Four CMS Women's Golf Players Earn WGCA All-American Scholar Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Four members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team earned All-American Scholar honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association, the organization announced this morning.

Junior Emily Attiyeh, sophomore Tiffany Hu and first-years Grace Lu and Noelle Song earned their way on to the WGCA All-America Scholar team for carrying over a 3.50 cumulative grade point average through the end of the spring semester. There were 1,401 honorees from all three NCAA Divisions this year, including 16 from the SCIAC.

Attiyeh is a repeat selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar team, and was also a third-team WGCA All-America selection this year. She earned a ninth-place finish at the first SCIAC regular season tournament and shot a 71 at the Redlands Invitational in the fall to earn a fourth-place finish. A year ago, she tied for fourth at the SCIAC Championship and had a career-best 69 at the second SCIAC regular season tournament.

Hu is also a repeat selection on the WGCAAll-American Scholar team after earning a spot on the team as a first-year last spring. She tied for 12th at the first SCIAC regular season tournament this year with a 158 and had a second-place finish at the CMS Invitational last year with a 77-72-149, shooting a career-low score on her second round. She also tied for second in a dual with Redlands in the spring with a 155.

Lu had a big impact in her rookie season this spring, before it was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. She earned first-team WGCA All-America honors after a season which saw her finish in the top six in all four tournaments she entered. She was third out of 48 golfers at the Embry Riddle Invitational, including a one-under 71 on her second round, and tied for fourth at the Redlands Invitational with a 74-72-146. She also had an even-par 72 to come in second at the Tustin Shootout, a tri-match with Redlands and Chapman.

Song also had a strong rookie season to earn her way into the regular top six for CMS. She had a top-10 finish at the first SCIAC regular season tournament by coming in eighth place out of 43 with a 155. She also finished just outside the top 10 in two large tournaments, coming in 11th at the Embry Riddle Invitational and 12th at the Redlands Invitational, after shooting an even par 72 on her second round.

CMS ended the year ranked No. 8 in the nation in Division III as it looked to earn its way back to the NCAA Division III Championships. The Athenas ended last year in fourth place at nationals, after winning the program's first-ever national championship two years ago in 2018.
