Emily Attiyeh, Grace Lu Named to All-West Region Team
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Emily Attiyeh and first-year Grace Lu represented the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team on the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-West Region team, the organization announced today.
Attiyeh was an All-SCIAC performer in each of her first two seasons, taking second-team honors as a first-year in 2017-18 and first-team honors last spring, when she shot a 69 at the second SCIAC regular season tournament. This year, she started off her season with a fourth-place showing at the Redlands Invitational, including a 71 (-1) in the final round to finish with a two-day 146.
Lu had a strong start to her first collegiate season, which included a tie with Attiyeh for fourth at the Redlands Invitational with a 74-72-146. She followed that up with an even-par 72 to come in second place at the Tustin Shootout and had the low score in a dual with Chapman to begin the spring semester. She capped off her first season with the top score for the Athenas (75-77-152) at the first SCIAC regular season tournament, placing sixth in the field.
CMS ended the abbreviated spring season with a No. 8 ranking in all of Division III as the Athenas were in strong shape to make a return visit to the NCAA Division III Championships. CMS won the national title in 2018 and came in fourth place a year ago.
