Video Tribute: The CMS Women's Golf Class of 2020

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The two members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Women's Golf Class of 2020 (Taylor Hughes, Emma Kang) were part of the program's first-ever national championship, which came in a playoff win over Williams in 2018. After making a run at a repeat championship last year before finishing fourth, this year's senior class was ranked in the top 10 and hoping to peak in May to make a run at a second championship ring. 

The suspension of spring sports put a premature end to those hopes, but the two seniors helped impact a program that won the SCIAC title in all three years they were able to compete in it. They earned three top-10 finishes at nationals (eighth, first and fourth) and won 19 tournaments overall over the last three-past seasons. 

Senior golfers usually get publicly honored at the conference championships as well as the NCAA Championships for those who qualify, but like all members of the Class of 2020, their senior recognition opportunities were lost with the sudden cancelation of the season. In lieu of the traditional send-off, we produced a highlight video to thank them for their contributions to CMS Athletics. Watch the video below: 



The two members of the CMS Women's Golf Class of 2020 are: 

Taylor Hughes (Tucson, Ariz. - Claremont McKenna, biochemistry)
Hughes was a first-team All-SCIAC selection who was a regular member of the CMS lineup over the course of her career. She earned her highest SCIAC Championship finish in 2017 when she came in fourth place, including a 73 in the opening round, which was the lowest score in the field. She also had the low round on the final round of the 2018 SCIAC Championships with another 73, helping the Athenas secure the championship, coming in 11th place overall. Hughes also earned a top-50 finish (35th) at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships. 

Emma Kang (Coto de Caza, Calif. - Claremont McKenna, economics)
Kang earned All-SCIAC honors in all three of her completed seasons, while adding Newcomer of the Year honors in 2017. She was also a two-time WGCA All-Region selection for the Athenas, while earning individual medalist honors at the SCIAC Championship in 2017 with a 75-74-72-221 to win by three strokes. As a sophomore, she picked up a top 30 finish at the NCAA Championships (27th) to help CMS win the national championship, as well a fifth-place finish in the SCIAC Championships.
