CMS Women's Golf Wins Dual with Chapman in Tune-Up Before SCIAC Competition

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team had its first competition of the spring season and performed well in a dual against Chapman, carding a 309 team score to win by just over 50 strokes on Friday afternoon at Via Verde Country Club.

The top five for the Athenas shot in the 70s, led by a 76 (+4) from first-year Grace Lu. Junior Emily Attiyeh was right behind with a 77, and junior Mira Yoo and first-year Noelle Song each shot a 78. First-year Lucy Bloomstran also had a 79 to come in under 80, while sophomore Tiffany Hu (81) and senior Camille Simon (82) weren't far off the pace.

CMS also earned wins over Redlands and Chapman in the fall in the Tustin Challenge, after finishing second behind Redlands in the Bulldog Invitational. Redlands comes into the spring ranked No. 2 nationally in Division III, while CMS is close behind in fifth (and Pomona-Pitzer is in eighth, giving the SCIAC three of the top 10).

Lu had a consistent round, shooting a 38 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine to earn the low score of the day with her 76. She had one of her birdies on the 18th hole, matching Attiyeh, to win by one stroke. On the front nine, Attiyeh carded an eagle on the par-five sixth hole.

The Via Verde event served as a warm-up for both teams, which will compete there again in two weeks at the first SCIAC regional season tournament on Feb. 22-23.
