PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team shot its low round of the tournament with a 306 to come away with a second-place finish at the Embry Riddle Co-Ed Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Antelope Hills Golf Course.

The Athenas ended the three-round event with a 930, ending up 18 shots ahead of Ottawa University in third place. Host Embry Riddle ran away with the team title with an 893, including a 294 in its first round and a 298 on Tuesday in the final round.

First-year Grace Lu tied for the low round of the day on Tuesday, finishing in the red with a 71 to move up from eighth place to third on the final individual leaderboard out of 48 competitors. Senior Emma Kang was also in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish with a 229, shooting a 74 on Tuesday to climb up from eighth place. First-year Noelle Song ended up in 11th place and first-year Lucy Bloomstran was 15th over the 54-hole event

Lu came into the back nine on a little bit of a down note, bogeying No. 8 and No. 9 to slip to +2 on the day. However, her fortunes quickly turned with an eagle on the par-5 10th hole to get her back to par on the day. With renewed confidence, Lu rattled off five pars in a row and then picked up a birdie on the 16th to finish in the red with 71 and end up in third place with a 226 (78-77-71).

Kang also had an impressive stretch of golf when she picked up birdies on three holes in a row, a 3 on the ninth hole, followed after the turn by birdies on No. 10 and No. 11. She also added a fourth birdie on the round on the 14th hole to help her reach the clubhouse with a 74.

The Embry Riddle Co-Ed Invitational marks the final event for the Athenas during the fall semester. CMS will be back in action in February for the first of two SCIAC regular season tournaments, which it will host at Via Verde on Feb. 22-23.
