RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team shot a solid +1 as a team on the second day of the Bulldog Invitational at the S Club on Sunday, moving up to second place on the final team leaderboard in its first event of the 2019-20 season.

The Athenas ended the two-day tournament with a 310-289-599, after shooting 21 strokes better on Sunday than they did in the opening round on Saturday. Host Redlands matched CMS with a 289 on Sunday to capture the team title at +11 (587), 12 shots ahead of CMS (which was playing without defending SCIAC champion Amy Xue this weekend). Pomona-Pitzer came in third place with a 604, after shooting 300 on Sunday, allowing the Athenas to pass them for second.

Individually, junior Emily Attiyeh and first-year Grace Lu tied for fourth on the leaderboard, each shooting +2 for the tournament (146). Attiyeh came in at one-under par on Sunday with a 71, while Lu shot even par to conclude her first collegiate tournament with a top-five finish.

Lu, in fact, started her final round on the 16th hole, birdied the 17th, bogeyed the 18th and then showed consistent play by parring her final 15 holes in a row. Attiyeh, who had a 69 last year in one of the two SCIAC regular season tournaments, caught fire around the turn, picking up birdies on No. 7, No. 8 and No. 11 in a five-hole span.

First-year Noelle Song came in 12th place overall with a 151 after also shooting even par on Sunday, while senior Emma Kang was one shot behind with a 152. Junior Mira Yoo and first-year Lucy Bloomstran also had solid Sunday rounds with 74s on the day.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it hosts a tri-meet with Chapman and Redlands at Tustin Ranch, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
