CMS Women's Golf Recognized by WGCA with Top 25 Team GPA

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team was recognized with All-Scholar Team honors by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for having one of the top 25 team grade point averages in NCAA Division III during the 2018-19 academic year, the organization announced today.

CMS ranked No. 21 among all NCAA Division III programs with a 3.589 team grade point average. The Athenas were the only SCIAC team to place in the top 25, and were one of only four programs to have a top 25 team GPA and qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, joining Grinnell, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Stevenson.

Earlier this week, the WGCA announced its All-American Scholar team, and four members of the Athenas earned a spot: senior Kelly Ransom, sophomore Emily Attiyeh and first-years Tiffany Hu and Amy Xue. The standard for All-America Scholar status requires at least a 3.5 GPA and participating in at least 50 percent of the team's rounds over the course of the year.

The CMS women's golf team ended the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships in fourth place after coming up just short in its bid to repeat as national champions, following the program's first-ever NCAA Division III title in 2018.
