Mira Yoo Earns First-Team All-America Honors for CMS Women's Golf

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Mira Yoo was one of seven players to earn First-Team All-America honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association, it was announced this evening at the WGCA Awards Banquet in Houston, Texas.

In addition to her All-America honor, Yoo joined freshman Amy Xue to give the Athenas two members of the WGCA All-West Region team. Yoo was joined on the WGCA First-Team All-America squad by Cordelia Chan (Williams), Jillian Drinkard (Methodist), Iris Kawada (George Fox), Larisa Luloff (DePauw), Vidushi Sinha (Grinnell) and Ziyi Wang (Carleton).

Yoo had a 76.12 scoring average through the SCIAC Championships, including a 75.92 in the spring season, leading the Athenas. She had a low round of 70 at the Bulldog Classic, and tallied a team-high 39 birdies, while having a final round scoring average of 74.88, over a stroke less than her overall average. She finished third at the SCIAC Championships with a 230, including an even-par 72 on her third round to move up from ninth place, and also finished second at the first SCIAC regular season championship.

Yoo, who was a second-team All-America selection last year, joins Margaret Loncki as the only first-team All-America selections in program history. Loncki was a second-team winner in 2017, and then earned first-team honors as a senior a year ago. Maya Reddy was a three-time All-America from 2012-14, earning second-team honors all three years, while current junior Emma Kang earned honorable mention All-America distinction last spring.

Xue had a strong freshman season for CMS as well, including winning the SCIAC Championship by one stroke, shooting a 73 on the final round after coming into the final day trailing by eight. She had a 77.27 stroke average to rank second behind Yoo on the team, and lowered that by more than a full shot to 76.18 in the spring. She was the top player on the Athenas on par-3 holes (3.17) and had the fewest bogeys per round (4.47).

CMS is at the midway point of the NCAA Division III Championships in Houston and currently stands in fourth place through two rounds, five shots off the lead (held by NYU). Xue is currently tied for ninth, two shots off the lead, while Yoo is tied for 15th, four shots back. The Athenas are trying to repeat as national champions after winning the program's first title last year.
