Mira Yoo Wins SCIAC Women's Golfer of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Mira Yoo was named the SCIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, March 30, the league office announced today.

Yoo earned the honor after a huge second-day performance at the Redlands Bulldog Classic on Tuesday, which helped lead the Athenas from fourth place after the opening round, into their fourth straight team championship. Yoo shot a two-under 70 on day two, tying the low round for any SCIAC women's golfer in the 2018-19 season, as CMS went from fourth place to winning the team championship by 11 strokes.

Yoo actually had a double-bogey early in her round on Tuesday, but then responded by rattling off six birdies, including three stretches of two in a row. On the individual leaderboard, she vaulted all the way up from 28th into a top 10 finish (seventh), while helping CMS shoot 295 on a day when the next best team score was a 309.

Yoo becomes the second CMS golfer to win the award this season, joining freshman Amy Xue, who captured it after a dual win over Redlands. That was the first of four straight wins for the Athenas, who went on to capture the SCIAC #1 regular season tournament and the George Fox Invitational, before winning the Bulldog Classic this week.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday when it competes in SCIAC #2 at the Olivas Links Course in Ventura, California.
