No. 2 Athenas Finish Runner-Up at Bulldog Classic

INDIO, Calif. – The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team carded back-to-back rounds of 308 (+20) on Monday and Tuesday to finish in second-place at the Bulldog Classic hosted by the University of Redlands at Indian Springs Golf Club. Embry Riddle – Arizona shot an impressive 298 (+9) on Tuesday to jump the Athenas and take first-place in the tournament. Margret Loncki (CMC) led the Athenas with rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2) to finish the tournament in third-place individually.

The rest of the Athenas' scoring member finished within a stroke of each other in the top-15. Emma Kang (CMC) and Kelly Ransom (CMC) both shot 156 (+12) across the two rounds while Mira Yoo (CMC) and Emily Attiyeh (CMC) were just a stroke behind with a total score of 157 (+13).

Day Two Update – Athenas finish Second of 17 (308-308—616, +40)

For the second-day in a row, Loncki led the Athenas with the low round of the day. Loncki carded a 74 (+2) on the day and was one-under through 14 holes, thanks to birdies on eight and 12. A bogey on 15 and a double on 16 dampened the end of the round slightly, but she finished with a pair of pars to shoot two-over on the day and placed third in the tournament.

After shooting an 80 (+8) on Day One, Kelly Ransom put together a four-over, 76 on Tuesday to finish second for the Athenas on the day. Ransom made a pair of birdies, putting a three on the card on the par-four eighth and making a two on the 102-yard, 14th hole.

After Ransom there were three Athenas tied at 79 (+7) in Tuesday's round. Mira Yoo, Emma Kang, and Emily Attiyeh each finished seven-over par on the day, but got there in different ways. Yoo and Kang both had extremely adventurous rounds, making three birdies in the round, but also putting a couple of big numbers on the cards. Yoo and Kang both went out in 41 (+5), before coming back in 38 shots (+2).

Attiyeh was a little up and down yesterday, but played more consistent on Tuesday en route to shooting a 79 (+7). Attiyeh made 11 pars and seven bogies on the day.

Camile Simon (HMC) once again competed as an individual and shot an 83 (+11). The highlight of Simon's day was her front nine, she carded a birdie on the fourth hole and shot one-over (37) on the opening nine.

The Athenas will next be in action on April 7-8 against the SCIAC for the second leg of the Conference Championship.

Day One Update – Athenas in Second of 17 (308, +20)

The Athenas sit in second place after the first round of the Bulldog Classic at Indian Springs Golf Club. CMS recorded a team-score of 20-over, 308 on Monday and are three strokes behind first-place No. 5 Methodist University, who shot a 305 (+17) on Monday. Margaret Loncki (CMC) opened the two-round tournament with a three-over, 75 and sits in a tie for seventh, two strokes off the lead.

Embry Riddle - Arizona and No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer are tied for tied for third, three strokes behind the Athenas with scores of 311 on Monday. No. 37 Cal Lutheran rounds out the top-five after shooting a 314 (+26) in the First Round.

As mentioned, Loncki led the way for the Athenas with a round of three-over, 75. She carded a three-over, 39 on the front nine before shooting an even-par, 36 on the back. Loncki made one birdie on the day, putting a three on the card on the par-four, 328-yard, 15th hole.

Emma Kang (CMC) is two strokes behind Loncki after Round One, shooting a Day One, 77 (+5) and is in a three-way tie for 12th-place. Kang shot five-over on the front before carding a birdie on the 15th hole en route to a even-par 36 on the back.

Freshmen Emily Attiyeh (CMC) and Mira Yoo (CMC) both recorded rounds of 78 (+6) on Monday, but got there in very different ways. Yoo was consistent, making a birdie and 11 pars in the opening round while Attiyeh had a bit more of a rollercoaster round. Attiyeh made three birdies on the back nine, but also had seven bogies and a double on the card en route to the six-over, 78. Yoo and Attiyeh are tied 15th heading into the second round of the tournament.

Kelly Ransom (CMC) rounded out the Athenas' scoring effort on the day with an opening round 80 (+8). Ransom made three birdies on the back nine and is tied for 28th place after 18 holes.

Playing as an individual, Camille Simon (HMC) finished the first day with a nine-over, 80. Simon's highlight of the day came when she carded an eagle on the par-five, 18th hole.

The Athenas will wrap-up up the two-day tournament on Tuesday at the 5,828-yard Indian Springs Golf Club.
