Athenas Open 2018 by Retaining Walker Cup

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – Over the weekend the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team opened the 2018 portion of their schedule by retaining the Walker Cup 5 1/2 to 4 1/2 against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at Via Verde Country Club. The Athenas held a slim 2-1 heading into Sunday's match play after winning the pairs scramble portion of the tournament on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Athenas needed a late push to retain the cup. Emma Kang (CMC) needed a birdie on the 18th hole to earn a half point in her match. She made her three footer for birdie on the 18th green to earn the important half point for the Athenas.

Mira Yoo (CMC), Cara Brinster (CMC), and Taylor Hughes (CMC) were the three Athenas to win their matches on Sunday.

The Athenas will be back in action against the SCIAC in the SCIAC #1 at Arrowhead Country Club on Feb. 24-25.
