Two Athenas earn All-Region honors; Loncki named All-American

CLAREMONT, Calif. – After a fifth place finish at the National Championships, junior Margaret Loncki (CMC) was a Second Team All-American honoree, as named by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. Prior to the championships, Loncki and freshman Emma Kang (CMC) both earned All-Region awards from the WGCA as well.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team won the program's fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship by 35 strokes over the University of Redlands. Additionally, the team played in a number of strong non-conference tournaments to prepare for its eventual success in the post season.

Kang won the individual title at the SCIAC Championships by posting a 32 on the final nine holes of the tournament to end up winning it by three strokes over the 2016 National Champ, Caroline Ordian from Redlands. Kang's expertise was seen early in the 2016-17 season as she led the Athenas to the program's lowest team score (300) and shared the individual tournament win with a 74 on the final day of the CMS Invite.

These are Loncki's first All-Region and All-American honors. She played at the No. 1 spot for the Athenas all season and capped off her year shooting a 69 on the final day of the National Championships. The junior improved each of the four days at the Bay Oaks Country Club with rounds of 79, 77, 74, and 69. Earlier in the season, Loncki finished second at the Ogio Bulldog Classic and at the DIII National Spring Preview.
