Strong Sunday for second place at SCIAC #2

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished in second place in the SCIAC #2 tournament over the weekend with a team score of 627. Freshman Emma Kang (CMC) delivered a 72 on Sunday for the low round of the day and finished in third overall at 10-over. The par 71 tournament at 5,846 yards was played at Jurupa Hills Country Club.

Redlands ended up with the team trophy after shooting rounds of 303 and 309 for a total of 612. At 627, the Athenas trailed UR by 15 strokes in this tournament. Since CMS took a commanding 26 stroke lead in SCIAC #1, they still lead Redlands by 11 strokes going into the three-round SCIAC Championships that begin Sunday, April 23.

On Saturday, sophomore Kelly Ransom (CMC) sat in third place with an impressive 75. She battled sickness throughout the weekend and still ended up in a tie for sixth.

Playing at No. 6 for CMS (so her scores were not counted for the team in Golfstat), junior Cara Brinster (CMC) had her best tournament of the spring. Her consistency with an 81 and 80 landed her in 12th place individually. Also in 12th was sophomore Mary Bryan Owen (CMC) who improved on her 82 from Saturday to shoot 79 on Sunday. Brinster and Owen's scores counted toward the Athenas' team scores for SCIAC competition on both days and lifted CMS narrowly over Pomona-Pitzer who ended with a 632.

Next up for CMS is the SCIAC Championships on April 23-25. With four rounds of the SCIAC season down, three rounds remain to decide which team advances to the NCAA Championships.
