Three Athenas in top-10 as team finishes second at UCSC Invite

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team had three golfers in the top-10 and the team finished in second place at the two-round UC Santa Cruz Spring Invite March 19-20 at Pacific Grove Golf Links.

The Athenas finished 35-over par with a score of (647), two shots ahead of third place Whittier. George Fox won the tournament (615) and led from start to finish.

Sophomore Maya Bhat (CMC) had the best weekend for the Athenas as she tied for seventh with a 14-over score of 158. Her best round was her first round, 4-over par score of 72.

Four strokes behind Bhat were freshman Mary Bryan Owen (CMC) and freshman Kelly Ransom (CMC) as the duo tied for 10th place (162). Their low-scoring rounds each came in the final round with a 79 and 80, respectively.

Last week's tournament winner for CMS, sophomore Margaret Loncki (CMC), closed her weekend in 13th place (165), while junior Taylor Kain-Godoy (CMC) tied for 21st (168) and senior Caroline Belmont (CMC) ended in a tie for 24th (170).

Each of CMS' competitors was in the top half of the field at the end out of 56 competitors.

Next up for the Athenas is the SCIAC No. 2 Tournament, April 2-3 at South Hills Country Club in West Covina.
