SCIAC #2 Tournament ends with Athenas in second

UPLAND, Calif. – In the SCIAC #2 Tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished in second place at the two-day, two-round event held April 4-5 at Upland Hills Country Club. CMS had rounds of 302 and 310 for a combined score of 612, 17 shots behind Redlands who won the event. Redlands also won the first SCIAC Tournament of the season in February. Whittier finished one shot behind CMS with a 613, followed by California Lutheran, Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental.

CMS' top finisher, sophomore Taylor Kain-Godoy (CMC), finished in a tie for 6th place, but her two-round score of 151 did not count for CMS' team score because Kain-Godoy participated as an individual. She posted a 77 in the first round and then a 4-over, 74 in the second round and finished eight shots behind Redlands' Caroline Ordian who won the event.

Sophomore Lindsay Slocum (CMC) tied for 8th place with a score of 152 (73 and 79) and was CMS' top scoring athlete for the overall team score. Slocum's first round, 3-over 73 ended up being the low round for the Athenas during the weekend and fourth lowest single round overall.

Three other Athenas (sophomore Liberty Ramsey (SCR), freshman Margaret Loncki (CMC) and senior Shaina Raskin (SCR), finished in the top-10 out of the 39 competitiors. The trio tied for 10th with two other golfers, with a score of 154.

Senior Marissa Suehiro (CMC), freshman Cara Brinster (CMC) and Maya Bhat (CMC) finished in a tie for 15th, a tie for 17th and 26th, respectively.

The SCIAC Championships which run from April 26-28 at Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont, Calif. are the next event on the schedule for the Athenas.
