Windy conditions not enough to keep Athenas from third-straight SCIAC crown

BEAUMONT, Calif. – A trio of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golfers finished in the top-5 as CMS won the SCIAC Championships and overall conference championship for the third season in a row. The SCIAC Championships at Oak Valley Golf Course concluded on April 29 and CMS shot a three-round score of 997 to finish 12 shots ahead of Redlands (1009) at the SCIAC's final event of the season.

CMS also finished 61 shots ahead of Redlands for the overall SCIAC title which is decided by total strokes from the two SCIAC Tournaments and the SCIAC Championships.

Heading into the final day of the SCIAC Championships, the Athenas held a four stroke lead over Redlands, but outshot Redlands by eight in the final round. Over the three day, three round event, CMS shot rounds of 323, 323 and 351. Final round scores for all of the teams were considerably higher than the first two rounds because of extremely windy conditions.

During the Championships, the Athenas were led by junior Shaina Raskin (244) who tied for second place with Occidental's Katie Park, one shot behind individual medalist Dalton Meade of Redlands. Raskin closed out the event with a third round score of 84. Her best score of the event came in the second round on Monday when she tallied a 77 which tied for the lowest round of the Championships.

Senior Maya Reddy (249) and sophomore Melody Sue (249) tied for fifth place overall and junior Tiffany Su (256) tied for 12th. Freshmen Lindsay Slocum (270) and Taylor Kain-Godoy (270) participated in their first SCIAC Championships and rounded out the field for CMS.
