Bio

Joial Griffith enters her third season on staff for the CMS women's basketball program in 2017-18. She comes from coaching at Mendocino College, her second stint after a five year absence.  Prior to that, she served as an assistant coach at Canyon High School in Anaheim, CA under Sarah Hoffman, where she was responsible for defensive strategies, game management and guard development.  She also served as an Assistant Coach for the Concordia University, Irvine Women's Basketball Team under the direction Jenny Hansen for four seasons (2009-13), two of those as a graduate assistant. While there, she was responsible for perimeter player development, academic progress, the strength program, and film exchange and assisting in practice planning, scouting and in-game management.  She also served as an Adjunct Professor and the faculty adviser of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Prior to coaching at Concordia, she worked as an assistant coach during the 2008-09 season under Jody Steliga at Mendocino College in Ukiah, CA.  From 2008-11, she coached for the Edge Basketball International Club in Chino Hills, CA under the direction of Cristian Gopez.  

As a student-athlete, she spent two years as a point guard at Concordia, from 2005-2007 on teams that made the GSAC playoffs both seasons.  Her senior season, the team led the country in free throw percentage.  Before coming attending Concordia, she played two years at Fullerton College from 2003-2005, under Debi Woelke.  As a freshman, she was the starting point guard on the team that won the Orange Empire Conference Championship, and served as a captain sophomore year.  Both seasons, the teams were ranked in the top 20 in the state.  She was a four-sport athlete - basketball, volleyball, softball and track & field - at La Sierra Academy in Riverside, Ca, where she graduated in 2003.  She was a two-year varsity starter in basketball and served as captain her senior year.  In 2003 the basketball team was the CIF-SS Division 5AA runner-up and she was selected CIF-SS Division 5AA Player of the Year.  

Griffith graduated from Concordia University, Irvine in 2007 with a BA in Business Administration and in 2011, received her Master's in Coaching & Athletic Administration.
