CMS Women's Basketball Suffers First Conference Loss to La Verne

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Ariana Dalia recorded a season-best 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team but it wasn't enough as La Verne was able to snap the Athenas six-game winning streak with an 85-57 road win on Wednesday night at Roberts Pavilion.

With the loss, CMS slides to 7-4 on the year and 3-1 in conference play while La Verne improves to 12-1 and 5-0 in the SCIAC, taking over sole possession of first place after winning the battle of the only two undefeated teams left in the league coming in.

Dalia added one block and three steals on her career night for the Athenas. Mary Markaryan had nine points, five rebounds and two steals while Kayla Ishibashi finished a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for eight points to go along with three assists for CMS.

Dejanee Gill and Marissa Howell finished with 18 points apiece for the Leopards, combining to make 12 shots on 22 attempts.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts the Whittier Poets at 2 p.m.
