Maya Love Earns Student Leadership Award from Claremont McKenna

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior women's basketball player Maya Love earned the William H. Alamshah Award for Student Leadership from Claremont McKenna College as part of its Class of 2020 Senior Awards, the college announced today.

Love missed her senior season due to an injury, but still finished ranked No. 8 in CMS history in career rebounds (631), as well as with 794 points. She was a two-time first-team All-SCIAC selection as a sophomore and junior, averaging a double-double as a sophomore with 12.9 points and a league-high 11.2 rebounds per game.

In addition to Love's individual accolades, she led CMS to three straight regular season SCIAC titles in her three seasons on the floor, as well as a SCIAC Tournament title in 2017. The Athenas advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017 with a 79-63 win over Texas-Dallas.

An international relations/government major with a minor in leadership, Love served as president of the Associated Students of Claremont McKenna Student Corporation, and worked as a residential assistant in Berger Hall. She interned in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2019 for U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and also studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal and Toulouse, France. 

The Claremont McKenna Senior Awards are typically presented at a banquet during graduation week, but due to the coronavirus pandemic this year, the college announcement was delayed until the summer.
