Severt, Love, and Bogle Named All-SCIAC in 2017-18
LAGUNA NIGEL, Calif. - On Thursday morning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) released their All-Conference women's basketball team. Among the 13 student-athletes named to the All-Conference teams were a trio of Athenas. Senior Kailee Severt (CMC) and sophomore Maya Love (CMC) earned First Team accolades while senior Corinne Bogle (CMC) was honored on the Second Team.
A former SCIAC Athlete of the Year in 2015-16, Severt's First team selection this season is her second First Team All-SCIAC honor. The senior has put together arguably her best seasons to date in Claremont. She is averaging 13.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, both career-highs. Against Pomona-Pitzer just two weeks ago, she went for a career-high 28 points in a 76-51 victory. Severt also scored her 1,000th career point this season. She currently sits in eighth-pace on the CMS all-time scoring list with 1,174 points in her career. Beyond her points and statistics, Severt's presence on the court makes the Athenas better in so many ways. Yes she can shoot the three and force teams to expand their defense, but her calm and collected demeanor helps lead CMS through frantic moments or stretches of play.
A walking double-double, Maya Love earns her first career All-SCIAC honor with the First Team nod this seasons. As one of the most athletic players in the SCIAC, Love was the only player in the conference to average a double-double during the regular season. She poured in 13.0 points and grabbed 10.9 rebounds per game during her sophomore season. On the year, Love has played in 23 games and has totaled 12 double-doubles all with points and rebounds. She had two performances that stood out during the regular season. The first on Jan. 8 against Occidental where she scored 26 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a 58-51 CMS victory. The second came in the regular season finale against Chapman with a share of the SCIAC Championship on the line. Love scored 19 points on a 7-10 shooting performance while grabbing 20 rebounds to lead the Athenas to the victory.
Also earning their first All-SCIAC honor this season was senior Corinne Bogle with a Second Team accolade. Bogle has been a huge piece of the Athenas 22-3 overall record. As the third leading scorer behind Severt and Love, Bogle averages 9.5 points per game and is second on the team with 48 assists. Bogle leads the team with 41 steals and is also best on the squad with a 1.4 assist to turnover ration. Bogle's best game of the season came against La Verne on Jan. 31. With a pair of starters out due to illness, Bogle stepped up. The senior dropped 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her first career double-double in an 80-77 overtime victory.
The Athenas will take the floor tonight in the SCIAC Semifinals against the Redlands Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. in Roberts Pavilion. CMS enters the SCIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season with a 15-1 record in the conference.
