Dungca puts up 17 in dominant win vs. Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team took out another SCIAC opponent in Redlands on Tuesday night, 66-47, to improve to 7-0 in conference play. Junior guard Jai Dungca (CMC) led all players with 17 points on the night recording her sixth double-digit scoring performance in the season.

The Athenas' offense got to work in the first quarter shooting 57% from the field. Each of the five starters scored at least a bucket in the quarter with junior Claire Donnelly (CMC) leading the charge. Donnelly notched five points in the first period and ended up with nine in the game.

The first half saw the Athenas out-scoring the Bulldogs by 11 points and with fewer turnovers than UR. Dungca put up similar numbers in each half, recording nine in the first and eight in the second. She was perfect from the field, behind the arc and at the foul line in the first half.

In the third quarter, Quinn Glosniak (CMC) was 2-for-3 while Dungca snagged three steals. The Athenas won each quarter by at least three points.

CMS put up 20 points again in the fourth quarter, extending their lead all the way up to 26 points near the end of the game. Freshman Teeana Cotangco (CMC) led the Athenas' scoring in the fourth quarter going 3-for-4 plus an and-one shot after getting fouled near the hoop.

Senior Mara Falahee (SCR) led the team with eight boards coupled with Donnelly who contributed seven. The CMS defense did not disappoint as it held yet another SCIAC team to less than 50 points to remain tied for first place.

Redlands' usual suspects Reyna Ta'amu and Jade Cheldelin each put up 13 and 11 points respectively and combined for 5 steals.

Next on the docket for the Athenas (12-4, 7-0 SCIAC) is Cal Lutheran (12-3, 6-0 SCIAC) on Jan. 26 and then the first installation of the annual Sixth Street Rivalry against Pomona-Pitzer (6-9, 3-3 SCIAC) on Jan. 28, with both games being on the road.
