Athenas extend win streak to five games and beat Redlands 61-51

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the first contest of 2015 for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team, the Athenas came away with a 61-51 win over Redlands and increase their win streak to five games.

In a game that saw each team with the same number of rebounds (33), CMS was able to win by increasing their chances to shoot by forcing turnovers. The Athenas took 60 shots from the field to the Bulldogs' 48.

After Caitlin Ciardella for Redlands hit a three-point jumper to tie the score at 12 points apiece, CMS went on a 9-0 run to create the initial separation in the game. During the run, three Athenas scored points in the paint with layups by junior Mara Falahee (SCR), senior Kimberly Scamman (CMC), and sophomore Kris Brackmann (CMC).

Scamman and Brackmann were two of three CMS players scoring double digits on the night. Scamman led the team with 17 points, Kyra Ray (KGI) added 11 including a trio of three-point baskets and Brackmann put up 10 points. Sophomore Jai Dungca (CMC) recorded a game-high of three assists.

Box Score

CMS is now 9-3 overall, 3-0 in SCIAC and go on the road to face Caltech on Jan. 8 and Chapman on Jan. 10 in double headers with the men's team.
