Both CMS basketball teams hit the court on Oct. 15 for first practices of the season
CLAREMONT, Calif. – For anyone and everyone across the college basketball landscape at the NCAA level, when the calendar turns to Oct. 15, it means one thing: the start of basketball season. Like all the other teams across the country on Wednesday, both the women’s basketball team and the men’s basketball team at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, hit the court for their first practices of the season.
The Athenas are coming off a school-record 24-win season in
2013-14 and an appearance in the NCAA Championships, to go along
with a conference championship. Several key players are back from
the record-setting team including senior All-Region performer
Kimberly Scamman, who is a preseason All-Region
selection by the Women’s D-III News for 2014-15. A home game
against Pacific Lutheran on Nov. 16 is CMS’ first game of the
regular season.
On the men’s side, the Stags went 20-6 in 2013-14 and won the SCIAC regular season title. The Stags also have several key players back including an All-Region performer of their own in guard Tyler Gaffaney who led the team in scoring last season. The Stags’ first game of the season is on Nov. 15 vs. Ohio Northern at the All-Engineers Classic in Milwaukee, Wisc.
