Scamman scores 28 for big SCIAC win over Redlands on Senior Night

CLAREMONT, Calif. – On senior night and the last regular season game in Ducey Gym, the Athena basketball team brought home a 55-47 win over Redlands. CMS betters their record to 21-3 overall and 13-2 in conference. The Athenas sit tied for first place in SCIAC with just one game left in the regular season.

CMS graduates six seniors after this season: Madeline Barnes (Scripps), Shelby Barthold (CMC), Chloe Dobbert (CMC), Sarah King (CMC), Kyra Ray (Scripps), and Cameron Ruby (CMC). Some notable career statistics for these seniors are: Barnes has over 1100 points, Barthold has 73 assists, Dobbert has 32 blocks, King has 124 rebounds, Ray has over 350 points, and Ruby has 48 steals.

The  Bulldogs kept the beginning of the game close but then the Athenas went on an eight point run to take a 15-9 lead. After a three pointer by junior Kimberly Scamman, the halftime score had CMS leading 29-20.  Scamman had 18 points herself in the half while Mara Falahee contributed with five rebounds.

In the second half, Scamman added on ten more points to finish the game at 28, a season high for her.

Redlands pulled the game within four points when Kameran Dage made a free throw with just over seven minutes remaining. Dage finished the game leading the Bulldogs with 13 points.

The Athenas regained a larger lead off a layup by freshman Kris Brackmann, perfectly assisted by freshman Claire Donnelly. CMS controlled the tempo of the final minutes of the game and secured the win with a final score of 55-47.

CMS travels to Cal Lutheran this Saturday, Feb. 22 to face off with the Regals at 5 p.m for their final game of the regular season.
