CLAREMONT, Calif. – Freshmen Kris Brackmann and Claire Donnelly came off the bench and played a big role in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team's 63-48 win over Pomona-Pitzer at Voelkel Gymnasium in SCIAC play on Saturday night. With the win, CMS improved to 18-3 overall and 10-2 in SCIAC while Pomona-Pitzer dropped to 7-13 overall, 5-8 in SCIAC.

The Athenas held a double-digit lead for much of the first half and led 28-17 at the break. Pomona-Pitzer began to chip away at the CMS lead early in the second half with a 9-2 run capped off by a pair of free throws by Jenn Okonkwo at the 16:36 mark of the second half.

CMS answered right back with consecutive three-pointers from senior guard Madeline Barnes and Brackmann to push the lead back to double-digits at 36-26 with 15:31 remaining. Pomona-Pitzer stayed close but a 10-0 run by CMS turned an eight point game into a 50-32 advantage for CMS which put the game out of reach for the home team.

Brackmann led CMS with 14 points – including 4-of-4 from the three-point line – off the bench while Donnelly had 13 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Kimberly Scamman added 12 points for the Athenas.

Okonkwo had 19 points and eight rebounds for Pomona-Pitzer.

Next up for the Athenas is a road game at Caltech on Feb.13.
