Athenas win in tight game against Arizona Christian

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team beat Arizona Christian University 68-64 in the first day of the David Wells Classic in Ducey Gym. The Athenas held onto their first half lead to remain undefeated at home this season.

With only two minutes left in the game, CMS trailed Arizona Christian by one point. A three pointer by Kris Brackmann put the Athenas ahead by two. The Firestorm was forced to resort to fouling but CMS' Brackmann finished the game making both foul shots to give the Athenas the four point edge.

CMS improved from last game on protecting the basketball by limiting turnovers.

Junior Kimberly Scamman led the Athenas with her drive to the basket and determination to score. She accumulated 18 points on the night and was perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.

Three point shots were made by five different Athenas: freshmen Brackmann and Jai Dungca, and seniors Kyra Ray, Cameron Ruby, and Sarah King.

CMS is back in action on Saturday (11/30) at 5 pm vs. UC Santa Cruz in Pomona-Pitzer's Rains Gymnasium.
