Carl Giles

CMC '86

Carl Giles was the first CMS male track or cross country athlete to win a National Championship.  His winning the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships with a CMS record of 194-0 was all the more impressive in that he only competed in the event for three years.  His hammer mark was ranked 48th in the United States in 1986.  As a senior, Giles won both the shot put and hammer throw at the SCIAC Championships and was voted SCIAC Athlete of the Year (the first CMS winner).  He was also voted team MVP and team captain.  Giles also played two years on the Stag football team as tight end.
