Athenas launch into top-5 after big weekend

NEW ORLEANS, La. – In the third poll from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's team jumped into the top-5 after success at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.

In the first two polls, CMS sat at No. 7 and then earned 16.56 points this week, the most of any team in Division III, to advance up to the No. 5 spot.

The Athenas rank in the top-10 nationally in six events. For the running events, Tyra Abraham (SCR) is No. 5 in the 100 meter dash, Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis (CMC) is No. 8 in the 400 and No. 10 in the 800, right behind Carmen Mejia (SCR) at No. 2 in the 800 and Bridget Blum (CMC) ranks fourth in the 5000. For the throwers, Vaiva Palunas (SCR) sits as No. 9 for the discus and Emily Bassett (CMC) is No. 4 in the hammer throw after a big mark last weekend.
