Trio of event wins highlight All-Comers Meet for CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In its first full meet of the season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field teams came away with a new program record, three event wins and several top-3 finishes at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet on Feb. 20 at Strehle Track. The All-Comers meet brings NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA programs from all around the area, in addition to participants not associated with a college or university.

In the 100-meter dash, CMS event record holder sophomore Tyra Abraham (SCR) won the event with a time of 12.14. She followed that performance up with a fourth place finish in the 200 (25.49), a PR in the event and good enough for 7th all-time in the CMS record books.

Junior middle distance runner Carmen Mejia (SCR) came away with a second place finish in the 1,000 meters (2:59.88).

Senior Bridget Blum (CMC) ran the 3,000 meters in 10:13.62 for a third place finish.

An extremely close women's 4x100 meter relay ended with the CMS 'A' team crossing the finish line in second place (48.89), just behind Cal Poly Pomona (48.66).

In the women's shot put, junior Vaiva Palunas (SCR) ended in third place with marks of 12.35m/40-06.25. Later on, she added second place in the discus (41.67m/136-08) to her day's work. Sophomore Emily Bassett (CMC) took first place in the hammer throw (50.65m/166-02).

The first event-win of the day came for the Stags in the mile as senior Evan Molineux (CMC) ran the event in 4:11.28, just ahead of unattached runner and former Stag Bennett Naden. Junior Josh Sealand (HMC) then broke the 3,000 meters school record with his time of 8:30.63 and finished in fourth in the event.

Sophomore Michael Wagenveld (CMC) pole vaulted his way to a second place finish (4.70m/15-05.00) and junior Cam Van (CMC) in the long jump, had marks of 6.64m/21-09.50 for third place. Senior Alex Rich (HMC) in the hammer throw (48.48m/159-01) came away in third place and rounded out a successful day of field events for the Stags.
