Field athletes tune-up for season at Sialaris Memorial Meet

WHITTIER, Calif. – At the Alyssa Sialaris Memorial Field Events Meet hosted by Whittier College on Feb. 13, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletes won each of the six events they participated in. Whittier, Caltech and CMS were the teams to participate in the exhibition throws and jumps meet.

Senior Alex Rich (HMC) won each of the three events (discus, hammer throw, shot put) he competed in for the Stags. His best mark was 50.57/165-11 to win the hammer. The next closest competitor in the men's hammer behind Rich was Morgan Hill from Caltech (39.38/129-02).

For the Athenas, junior Vaiva Palunas (SCR) won two of her three events (shot put and discus) and sophomore Emily Bassett (CMC) had the top marks in the hammer throw with a near personal best of 50.45/165-06.

In the women's discus and the women's hammer, CMS had the top-4 finishers in each. The Stags had three of the top-4 finishers in the discus and shot put.

The first full meet of the season for CMS is on Feb. 20 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.
