Fun competition with CMS Track & Field Alumni

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track and field team hosted its annual Alumni Meet over the weekend and drew a large number of former athletes. The meet was very low key with an emphasis on welcoming the alumni back to campus and giving our young athletes their first taste of collegiate competition.  All marks were unofficial.

Sophomores Emily Bassett (CMC) and Michael Wagenveld (CMC) were the outstanding performers of the day.  Bassett's 51.28/168-03 throw in the hammer was a personal record and would make her competitive on the national stage if repeated during regular competition. Wagenveld cleared 4.72/15-06 in the pole vault, a big personal record.

The best newcomers were senior Adam Hilborn (CMC) and freshman Eric Myers (CMC).  Having just finished his career for the Stag water polo team, Hilborn was the top finisher in his first javelin competition with a 46.78/156-06 effort.  Meyers matched his high school record in the high jump with a 1.87/6-02 clearance and nearly set another personal best with a 6.23/20-05 effort in the long jump.

The best alum performance was by Mike Sullivan (CMC '03) who won the long jump with a mark of 6.33/20-09.

The throwers next compete at the Sialaris Memorial Throws Meet on Feb. 13 and then the whole team is back in action on Feb. 20 for the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.
