All-American finishes by Sealand, Mejia and Tarleton highlight final day of NCAA Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – In the final day of the NCAA Championships at St. Lawrence University, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field team had three All-American performances to land the Athenas in a tie for 17th place and the Stags in a tie for 56th.

In the men's 1500m, sophomore Joshua Sealand (HMC) entered the NCAA Championships as the 14th seed and finished sixth for his first All-American performance. Sealand posted a time of 3:51.80, more than three seconds faster than his qualifying time in the preliminary race on Thursday. Less than three hours later, Sealand also competed in the men's 5,000m and placed 13th with a time of 14:53.97.

After putting up a 2:10.95 in the 800m race yesterday, sophomore Carmen Mejia (SCR) shaved off more than a second for an All-American finish in second place at 2:09.30. With this time, Mejia sets a new personal and CMS record, bettering her already top time in CMS history.

After having competed in three events on the first day of the NCAA Championships and still qualifying for the finals in the 400 hurdles, sophomore Hanna Tarleton (CMC) cut 0.68 seconds off her time for an All-American performance and fifth place finish. Her time of 1:01.27 is a personal best and edges her into the No. 2 spot in CMS history.

Sophomore Matt Wong (CMC) competed in the men's triple jump for a 17th place finish with a jump of 14.05m (46-01.25). This was his first NCAA appearance in the triple jump as last year he only competed in the long jump at the 2014 championships.

The lone Stag senior, Elan Bernstein (CMC) was seeded 20th going into the men's javelin completion. Today, he threw 55.82 (183-02) which was good for 14th place.

Senior Sara Mostatabi (CMC) and junior Bridget Blum (CMC) competed in the women's 5,000m event. Blum ran it in an impressive 17.37.12 for a 12th place finish after having been seeded at No. 21. Mostatabi was just a few seconds behind Blum at 17:41.50 landing her in 16th place.
