Several top-10 marks set for CMS at APU Invite

AZUSA, Calif. – A total of 15 program top-10 marks were made by the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field teams on April 17 at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University, an invitational that featured many of the top programs and athletes from around the country.

The CMS women's 4x400 meter relay team of Hanna Tarleton, Carmen Mejia, Brina Jablonski and Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis ran the second fastest time in Division III in 2015 at 3:50.10. The time also ranks second on CMS top-10 list as they bested their previous time of 3:53.46 which they ran earlier in the season. The CMS team finished 5th overall in the relay.

In the men's triple jump, Matt Wong had a CMS top-10 as well. Wong's mark of 14.45m ranks fourth on CMS' top-10 list and in the top-5 nationally in Division III for 2015. Cam Van also had a top-10 mark in the triple jump (14.09).

Of the 15, top-10 times and marks CMS had on Friday, 10 came from the Athenas. Cameron-Lewis (400 meters – 57.53), Tyra Abraham (100 meters – 12.29), Tarleton (400 hurdles – 1:03.94), Abraham (200 meters – 25.46), Bridget Blum (5000 meters – 17:14.24), Caroline Willian (3000 meter steeplechase – 11:14.05), Kaitlyn Spees (3000 meter steeplechase – 11:14.44), Amber Scott (3000 meter steeplechase – 11:44.28) and Ellen Seidel (pole vault – 3.46m) all registered CMS top-10's for Athenas, in addition to the 4x400 relay team.

Abraham's time in the 100 meters is the second fastest time in program history, seven-one hundredths of a second off her school record time.

For the Stags, field events were the area where they found the most success at the APU Invite. In addition to Wong and Van's triple jump, Wong also had a top-10 mark (7.03m - 7th ) in the long jump while Van had a top-10 mark in the high jump (1.95m – 9th), which tied his previous best. In the pole vault, Michael Wagenveld broke into the Stags' top-10 at sixth (4.61m).

Next up on the schedule for CMS is the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on April 25.
