Two school records, 32 personal bests set at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

The track & field teams competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday and two CMS records and 32 personal bests were set.  Matt Wong broke his own record in the long jump winning the event with a mark of 7.25m (23-9.5).  Carmen Mejia shattered the previous record in the 800 with a time of 2:09.40 (the old mark was 2:11.63).  Both marks currently lead the nation.

CMS athletes won 11 heats or flights and finished second in 12 others in the meet that featured over 1000 athletes.  Madi Knaub won her sections of both the 100 and 200 meters with personal bests of 12.51 and 25.30 respectively.  Justin Jones won his section of the 800 with a season best of 1:53.85.  Arch Robison won his section of the 1500 with a personal best of 4:16.97.  Anna Shepard won the second section of the 5000 with a personal best of 18:46.55.  Becca Stewart won her section of the 400 hurdles with a personal best of 64.89.  The 4 x 100 relay team of Knaub, Hanna Tarleton, Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis and Tyra Abraham won with a season best of 47.83.  The 4 x 400 relay team of Mac Hightower, Ryan Jones, Sean Mahre and Will Clausen won the second section with a time of 3:27.84.  Davis Catolico won his flight of the triple jump with a mark of 40-9.75 and Sam Perrella won his section of the discus throw with a season best of 138-10.

Additional personal bests on the track were achieved by Laura Woods in 200 (28.62), John Dewald (50.96), Cameron-Lewis (55.96) and Woods (63.68) in the 400, Hightower (4:06.01), Bob Owlett (4:07.64), Bryn McKillop (4:35.62), Sara Mostatabi (4:36.69), Amber Scott (5:04.30) and Leah Snider (6:00.19) in the 1500, Zorg Loustalet (9:31.52), Caroline Willian (11:12.69) and Emma Su (12:54.13) in the steeplechase, Collin Barraugh (15:58.84), Jen Lehr (17:53.63), Roselyn Cantu (18:14.68), Rachel Mow (18:16.86) and Laura Broderick (18:46.55) in the 5000 and by Hanna Tarleton (62.47) in the 400 hurdles.  Additional personal bests in the field were recorded by Michael Wagenveld (14-9) in the pole vault, Vaiva Palunas (142-8) and Alex Rich (169-3) in the hammer throw, Amanda Maheras (32-8.25) in the shot put and by Rich (153-7) in the discus.

In addtion to the two school records, CMS top-10 marks were recorded by Cameron-Lewis in the 400 (#2), Knaub in the 200 (#3) and 100 (#10), Tarleton in the 400 hurdles (#3), Willian in the steeplechase (#5), Rich in the discus (#6), McKillop in the 1500 (#6), Mostatabi in the 1500 (#7), Palunas in the hammer (#10) and by Knaub, Tarleton, Cameron-Lewis and Abraham in the 4 x 100 (#3).

The teams will compete again this Saturday, April 11 against Caltech, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, and Whittier in their final SCIAC dual meets of the year.  The meet will take place at CMS with events beginning at 11:00.
