CMS track & field teams open SCIAC competition 2-0

CMS began their SCIAC season with dual meets against Occidental and Redlands on Saturday at Redlands.  Both teams finished 2-0 with the men beating Occidental 117-46 and Redlands 109-54 and the women winning 135-21 against Occidental and 122-41 against Redlands.  Whittier also participated with the meet and, paired with CMS in dual meets this season, will score against CMS at the final dual meet in April.

Event winners for the Stags included Bob Owlett in the steeplechase (9:41.64), Evan Molineux in the 1500 (3:55.55), Justin Jones in the 800 (1:56.32), Zorg Loustalet in the 5000 (15:33.19), Alex Rich in the hammer throw (50.83m [166-9]), Elan Bernstein in the javelin (50.59m [165-11]), Matt Wong in the long (6.94m [22-9.25]) and triple (13.93m [45-8.5]) jumps, Michael Wagenveld in the pole vault (4.30m [14-1.25]) and Cam Van in the high jump (1.93m [6-4]).  Kofi Sekyi-Appiah made the CMS top-10 list in the 100 meters with a time of 10.88.

Winners for the Athenas included Amy Hollshwander in the 100 hurdles (15.23), Caroline Willian in the steeplechase (11:20.74), the 4 x 100 relay team of Madi Knaub, Hanna Tarleton, Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis and Tyra Abraham (48.26), Bryn McKillop in the 1500 (4:40.96), Cameron-Lewis in the 400 (56.50) and 200 (25.31), Abraham in the 100 (12.40), Carmen Mejia in the 800 (2:15.96), Tarleton in the 400 hurdles (63.05), Sara Mostatabi in the 5000 (17:51.22), the 4 x 400 relay team of Tarleton, Mejia, McKillop and Cameron-Lewis, Emily Bassett in the hammer throw (45.87m [150-6]), Lauren Mott in the javelin throw (35.91m [117-9]), Vaiva Palunas in the shot put (11.65m [38-2.5]) and discus throw (43.64m [143-2]) and Liz Lee in the triple jump (10.86m [35-7.5]).  Palunas' discus mark broke her own school record while her shot mark is number six in CMS history.  Cameron-Lewis' times in the 400 and 200 are CMS freshman records and are number two and three respectively in CMS history.  Additional top-10 marks were recorded by Abraham in the 200 (#10), Mejia in the 800 (#8), Willian in the steeplechase (#5), Hollshwandner in the 100 hurdles (#6), Tarleton in the 400 hurdles (#6), Bassett in the hammer (#8), Nicole Laliberte in the hammer (45.00m [147-7] - #9 ) and by the 4 x 100 relay (#5) and 4 x 400 relay (#10).

CMS will compete in invitationals on both sides of the upcoming spring break and then return to SCIAC competition on March 28.  They will compete against La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer at Pomona.
