Four CMS records set at Rossi Relays

Four CMS records were set Saturday by the host Stags and Athenas at the 19th Annual Rossi Relays.  Vaiva Palunas broke the 22-year old women's discus record with a mark of 43.42m (142-5).  Carmen Mejia, Hanna Tarleton, Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis and Sara Mostatabi combined to break the women's distance medley relay record by over 14 seconds with a time of 11:51.20.  Cameron-Lewis and Mejia combined with Bryn McKillop and Alex Arnett to break the women's 4 x 800 relay record by over 10 seconds with a time of 9:22.48.  Evan Molineux, Mac Hightower, Justin Jones and Josh Sealand combined to break the men's distance medley relay record with a time of 10:03.10.  Both of the women's relay records had stood since 2006 while the men's relay record has been broken in three consecutive years.

20 teams from Division I, II, III and NAIA and over 600 athletes competed at the meet.  The top performance in the meet was in the women's 3000 meters where Staci Foster of Azusa Pacific set the stadium record by over 10 seconds with a time of 9:29.29. 

CMS top-ten performances were turned in by Palunas and Ellen Seidel as well as four additional relays.  Palunas is number nine on the women's shot put list with a mark of 11.41m (37-5.25) while Seidel equalled the eighth best mark in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.20m (10-6).   McKillop, Becca Stewart, Jasmine Shirey and Bridget Blum combined for the fourth best women's distance medley relay with a time of 12:17.68.  Madi Knaub, Tarleton, Cameron-Lewis and Tyra Abraham combined for the eighth best 4 x 100 relay with a time of 48.63.  Kevin Huang, John Dewald, Ryan Jones and Garrett Ryan combined for the ninth best men's distance medley relay with a time of 10:19.58.  J. Jones, Molineux, Hightower and R. Jones combined for the ninth best men's 4 x 800 relay with a time of 7:54.73.

Event winners for Athenas included Erin Ristig in the pole vault (3.35m [10-11.75]) and the 4 x 100, 4 x 800 and distance medley relays.  Event winners for the Stags included Alex Rich in the hammer throw (49.32m [161-10]) and the 4 x 800 and distance medley relays.

CMS returns to action on March 7 as they begin SCIAC competition at Redlands against Occidental and Redlands.
