Athenas 4-0, Stags 2-1 at final SCIAC dual meets

The track & field teams concluded their SCIAC dual meet season at home on Saturday against Chapman, Occidental, Redlands and Whittier.  The women swept all four meets beating Chapman 139-22, Occidental 123-40, Redlands 108-55 and Whittier 136-18.  The men beat Occidental 98-63 and Whittier 107-52, but lost to Redlands 93-70 (Chapman does not have a men's team).  The Stags finished 6-1 in dual meets while the Athenas finished 6-2.

The women won eight of the 19 events.  Ellyn Erving was the only double winner for the Athenas as she won the long jump (18-3.25) and triple jump (39-6.5).  Hanna Tarleton won the 200, Bridget Blum led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1500, Tess Williams won the 5000, Meg O'Keefe won the 400 hurdles, Kaitlyn Spees led a 1-2-3 sweep in the steeplechase, Vaiva Palunas won the shot put and the team of O'Keefe, Amy Hollshwander, Alex Arnett and Tarleton won the 4 x 400 relay.  21 personal bests were recorded in the meet by the Athenas.  Two each were recorded by Cora Miller (15.63 100 hurdles, 60.4 400r), Stephanie Monahan (13.32 100, 26.80 200), Jessica Ng (16-10.5 long jump, 35-1.75 triple jump), Lauren Mott (112-7 javelin, 104-0 discus) and Raquel Selcer (96-11 hammer, 66-11 discus).  CMS top 10 performances were recorded in the steeplechase by Spees (11:21.32), Caroline Willian (11:29.91) and Amber Scott (12:09.80) and in the hammer throw by Nicole Laliberte (139-2).

The men won five events.  Evan Molineux led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 1500, Tyler Robinson led a 1-2-3-4-5-6 sweep in the 5000, Bob Owlett led a 1-2 finish in the steeplechase, Cam Van won the triple jump and Alex Rich won the hammer throw.  Nine personal bests were turned in by the Stags.  Two each were recorded by Rich (42-11 shot put, 140-9 discus) and Iain Laufer (9-6.5 pole vault, 95-0 javelin).

CMS will next compete at the SCIAC Championships on May 2-3 at Occidental College.  Field events begin at noon on Friday and 1:00 on Saturday while the running events begin at 4:30 and 5:00 respectively.
